Former U.S. Secretary of State and CIA Director
Michael Richard Pompeo (born December 30, 1963) is an American businessman, diplomat, and politician who served as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (2017-2018) and as the 70th United States Secretary of State (2018-2021) under President Donald Trump. A former U.S. Army officer and Harvard Law School graduate, Pompeo represented Kansas's 4th congressional district from 2011 to 2017. As Secretary of State, Pompeo oversaw the Trump administration's "maximum pressure" campaign against Iran, negotiated the Abraham Accords normalizing relations between Israel and several Arab states, and engaged in high-stakes diplomacy with North Korea. In November 2024, Trump announced he would not include Pompeo in his second administration.
