Former Special Counsel (2017-2019), Former FBI Director
Robert Swan Mueller III (born August 7, 1944) is an American attorney who served as the sixth Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from 2001 to 2013, and as Special Counsel for the Department of Justice from 2017 to 2019. A decorated Marine Corps veteran, Mueller led the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. The Mueller investigation resulted in charges against 34 individuals and three companies, including convictions of Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, national security advisor Michael Flynn, and longtime Trump advisor Roger Stone. The final report concluded that while Russia interfered in the election to help Trump, there was insufficient evidence to establish criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia.
