Former Special Counsel
Jack Smith is an American lawyer who served as Special Counsel investigating Donald Trump from 2022 to 2025. He was appointed by AG Merrick Garland to oversee the classified documents case and January 6 election interference investigation. He obtained indictments against Trump in both cases. The classified documents case was dismissed by Judge Aileen Cannon; the election case was discontinued after Trump's 2024 election victory.
