Overview
George Papadopoulos served on Donald Trump's foreign policy advisory panel during the 2016 presidential campaign. His conversation with Australian diplomat Alexander Downer about Russian "dirt" on Hillary Clinton triggered the FBI's Crossfire Hurricane investigation in July 2016. In October 2017, he pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI about his contacts with individuals connected to Russia. He served 12 days in federal prison and was pardoned by Trump in December 2020.
