X Corp. (formerly Twitter) is a social media company owned by Elon Musk since October 2022. Under Musk's ownership, the platform has significantly reduced content moderation, restored previously banned accounts including Donald Trump, and laid off most of the Trust and Safety team. X has seen an increase in hate speech and misinformation following the acquisition. The platform was a primary target of Russian IRA operations in 2016 and banned political advertising in 2019.
