Based in St. Petersburg and funded by Yevgeny Prigozhin, it conducted a large-scale social media campaign to interfere in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. The Mueller investigation indicted 13 IRA employees. The operation created fake American personas, organized real-world events, and spread divisive content.
